    SMS Track Team A Winner


    The St. Matthias School Track team competed in the Kids for Kids Track Meet which raised $1,300 for the Scholarship Fund for Inner City Children.  Thanks to all that participated and donated!




    Wrestling Champion


    Zach B. recently participated in the three-day National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) 2018 National Dual Tournament in Virginia Beach, VA.  Hundreds of high school, middle school, and elementary dual teams from across the country descended upon Virginia Beach looking to win national dual team titles.  Out of 83 elementary teams participating this year, Zach’s team made it to the gold pool and placed in the top 8 overall.  Zach’s record for the weekend of 7-2 earned him All-American status as an elementary school wrestler.  Earlier this year, Zach participated in the Tyrant Duals held in York, PA. where his 8-0 record earned him the team Most Outstanding Wrestler Award.  His dual record for 2018 is 20-2.  Locally, Zach won the Central Jersey A Flight Champion, and wrestled in the New Jersey Grade School Wrestling League (NJGSWL) (middle school) where he earned the most pins on his team, going 10-0. 

    Zach practices 5-6 days a week and credits his successes over the past 7 years in the sport to working hard and being dedicated.  Congratulations on a job well done!





    Grand Prix Rising Talent


    Congratulations to Daniel A. for winning the Grand Prix to the 2018 Music-Fest's Rising Talents Festival - piano solo division. Daniel performed the "Variations on a Russian Folk Song"  by Glinka. We applaud your hardwork, dedication and relentless pursuit of perfection in this musical journey!

    Barvinok Ukrainian Youth Dance Ensemble



    Matthew T. in 6A, who has been studying Ukrainian dance since he was four years old, performed on Friday, April 13th with the Barvinok Ukrainian Youth Dance Ensemble at the Woodbridge Middle School Theater.  He is quite accomplished and we congratulate him. 




    2018 Golden Key Music Winner


    Amanda C. in 8A is a member of a seven flute ensemble from the Bravura Youth Orchestra.  We congratulate the ensemble on winning an award in the 2018 Golden Key Music competition.  They will be performing a flute ensemble at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, NYC in June, 2018.  She has been a member of the wind ensemble for Bravura for two years.  She is the only student from a Catholic School, either elementary or high school, in the ensemble.  Congratulations, Amanda. 





    Tournament of Champions


    Sixth grader Samuel S. won the tournament organized by the Junior Bowler’s Tour New Jersey Conference held on June 3, 2017 at the Bowlero in North Brunswick.  Playing against more than 30 bowlers in the handicap division, he first qualified to the next round as one of the top 10 finishers.  He then made it to top 5 step ladder round as the #2 finisher before he eventually won the semi-finals and the finals matches.




    Art Contest Award


    Congratulations to Erin G. on receiving Honorable Mention in St. Vincent Academy Women’s History Month Art Contest.  The St. Vincent Academy community was impressed by her artistic talent.




    Rising Talent Award


    Amanda C. is a member of a flute ensemble from the Bravura Youth Orchestra in East Brunswick. Her 10 member flute ensemble won the Grand Prix/1st prize award for the 2016-2017 Rising Talents competition. The ensemble will be playing at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. Kudos on your accomplishments, Amanda!



    League Championship Win


    Congratulations to the Somerset Mustangs AAU team!  Over the weekend, they won the league championships in their division out of Hoop Heaven!  Their hard work and determination paid off!

    Growing a Garden of Readers Sports Night


    Congratulations to our SMS cheerleaders for their contributions to the Growing a Garden of Readers Sports Night held at MacAfee Road School.  They worked tirelessly with MacAfee students teaching them team work through cheerleading.  The coordinators of the event remarked that "the cheerleaders had an amazing spirit and the students truly embodied the love of Christ through their work for the community of Franklin Township youth."

    Webelos Cub Scouts Receive Parvuli Dei Awards


    Congratulations to Terence Q., Liam H., and Trevor L!  These fifth grade students and Webelos Cub Scouts received the Parvuli Dei award on Sunday, February 4 at the 9:00 am Mass. 

    The “Parvuli Dei” is a program developed by the National Catholic Committee on Scouting for Bear and Webelos Cub Scouts of the Catholic faith. 

    Its purpose is to help young boys explore a wide range of activities in order to discover the presence of God in their daily lives as members of their family and parish, and also to develop a good positive self-image through the contributions they can make to the group or community.





    SMS Girls in "Anything Goes"


    Bishop George Ahr High School, Edison; The Hun School of Princeton; Immaculata High School, Somerville; Mount St. Mary Academy, Watchung; Notre Dame High School, Lawrenceville; Princeton Day School; Rutgers Prep, Somerset; St. Joseph High School, Metuchen  

    In addition, we are proud to announce that 28 scholarships were offered to members of the Class of 2016:

    • 6 Immaculata High School
    • 1 Loyola High School
    • 1 Mount St. Mary Academy
    • 1 Notre Dame High School
    • 6  St. Joseph High School
    • 1  Union Catholic High School

    Sixteen students were recognized as Presidential Scholars for achieving a composite score of 90th percentile on the Terra Nova Standardized Test from either grade 6 or 7 and a 93 average in grades 6, 7 and the first semester of 8th grade.  These students have met the requirements defined by the United States Department of Education.

    NJ Kids Scholastic State Wrestling Championship

    On Sunday, March 15th Second Grader Zachary B. won the 2015 New Jersey Kids Scholastic State Championships for the Bantam 55 lb wrestling division.  Zachary won 5 matches to place 1st overall in a bracket of 24 other wrestlers.
