What we did in Pre-K 2018:

November  – We focused on letters D, S and T. We had learned about Pilgrims and Native Americans and the first thanksgiving dinner. We had our own special Thanksgiving Feast with Kindergarten and Pre-K students. We learned about leaves and how they change color. We also learned about the important parts of a book.with his ship! And best of all we learned how to be kind friends to one another.

December – We focused on letters C, O, M. We learned about Advent and the birth of Jesus in the manger in Bethlehem. We rehearsed our songs for the Nativity Performance. We learned about the planets in the universe and even had a chance to see the planet Venus in a picture from Mrs. Taylor's backyard! We were taught about sequencing in books and can pick out the main characters.

January – We focused on letters I, F, B, and P. We learned about fun things to do in the snow and how to make snowflakes out of paper. We even heard that every snowflake in the sky is different! We learned how to create patterns using shapes or colors. We learned how to graph items and how to use our prior knowledge about determining if something can sink or float. We even had time to practice with numbers 1 through 8, for writing, counting and identifying. One of our favorite lessons was about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We created beautiful posters with his silhouette, a dove and an olive branch, and were taught what they represent. We also heard about his life, his most famous "I Have a Dream" speech, and why he wanted to give many speeches to help people. We had lots of fun with Catholic Schools Week too, including our assembly with the percussion group, Exit 9.

February – We focused on letters L, U, K, G, and E. We celebrated Read Across America by reading Dr. Seuss books and working on projects related to his stories, One of our favorites was Green Eggs and Ham! After taking a survey, a little over half of the children would eat the green eggs and ham! We also had fun celebrating Black History Month by painting pictures of Rosa Parks and learning her story through the book If A Bus Could Talk and the song Sister Rosa by the Neville Brothers! We also learned about Ruby Bridges. We learned about animals who hypernate and enjoyed making a ground hog puppet for Ground Hog Day. Of course we all had fun making crafts and cards for Valentine's Day too. We even made a flag project for President's Day. So much fun in February!

March – We focused on letters R, H, W, and V. We kicked off the month celebrating Ash Wednesday, which had all the children in awe. We made many crafts for St. Patrick's Day, like stained glass shamrocks, and learned about his story.  We even had a visit from a leprachaun who caused some mischief in our classroom and had the children giggling! We learned about Lent and how we all should be kind to one another. We celebrated the start of Spring and transformed our hallway to a Welcome Spring celebration. We are having fun outside on the playground lots too!

April – We focused on letters X, Q, and J. We celebrated springtime, talked about Earth Day and Easter! We made easter crafts, like baskets and eggs. We even saw a real x-ray and learned about bones in the body! We celebrated Jesus rising from his grave when we returned from Easter break. Our favorite books were Fancy Nancy, Aspiring Artists and Fox in Socks. We received our caterpillars to watch them grow. Can't wait to see what happens to them!
