     Morning Routine

September 2020 - Due to the Coronvirus, please disregard the information below and use this updated information for now. Students follow the new reopening plan as per administration. Students will enter the classroom anywhere from 7:30 to 8:00 a.m. They will be asked some simple screening questions and then take their seats. All student belonging are kept in their desks and backpacks. Closets are not being used this year.

Students will check their student folder (H Folder) very morning. They should put any mail and papers for the teacher, office, or other school personnel into the tray on the teacher's desk. It is important that you remind your child to give me ALL mail and correspondence. If you send me a note about a change in dismissal and your child forgets to give it to me, then I will not know about it. I also remind the children several times in the morning to check their folders for any mail, notes, etc.

Students should get in the habit of keeping their lunch ticket in their H folder pocket. If it is kept in the same place on a consistent basis, then it eliminates looking for lost wallets and makes it easier to quickly get ready for lunch.

Students then copy down the day's homework into their planner. Planners are optional this year. All homework will also be placed on my website under the "Homework" tab. Once homework is written down, there may be a small academic or reading activity for the students to work on while the morning administrative duties are taken care of. If there is no such activity, students should take a chapter book out of their backpacks or desks and enjoy some independent reading time. Practicing independent reading is an important part of our school day. Our morning routine also includes prayer, Pledge of Allegiance, attendance, lunch count, calendar, and morning meeting.

Prior to the Virus (disregard for now):  Students line up on the 4B lines in the rear parking lot. When there is inclement weather, students will sit at tables in the cafeteria. Please remember to visit the SMS web site for information about drop off procedures.

The last bell rings at 8:00 a.m. If a child is not on line at that time, then he/she will be marked as "Late". We walk to the classroom. Students unpack their backpacks. They bring their backpacks, lunch boxes, and coats to their designated numbered space in the coat closet. Students will check their student folder every morning.

Students should get in the habit of keeping their lunch money/lunch ticket in their H folder pocket. If it is kept in the same place on a consistent basis, then it eliminates looking for lost wallets and makes it easier to quickly get ready for lunch.

Students then copy down the day's homework into their planner. Please note that the homework will also be posted on my web site daily. Once homework is written down, there is usually a small academic or reading activity for the students to work on while the morning administrative duties are taken care of. Our morning routine also includes prayer, Pledge of Allegiance, attendance, lunch count, calendar, and morning meeting.

    Classroom Jobs

We have many classroom jobs that the children usually enjoy performing. We will rotate through the student list all year and two "student teachers" will be selected every day.  (Virus Update:  Classroom jobs are on hold for the immediate future.)
