The Ministry of Development
This is what we are about. We plant seeds that one day will grow. We water seeds already planted, knowing that they hold future promise. We lay foundations that will need further development. We provide yeast that produces effects far beyond our capabilities.
-Archbishop Oscar Romero

“2007 Night of Winners” Super Tricky Tray:
Friday, February 9th, 2007
600 “Winners” filled the ballroom of the Somerset Double Tree Hotel on Friday February 9th, 2007 for the St. Matthias School “Night of Winners” Super Tricky Tray to help raise over $52,000 for School Development. 150 beautifully displayed prizes valued from $100 to $2,500 lined the room and the program journal boosted colorful basket descriptions and business advertisements.
This year’s theme celebrated Mardi Gras. In keeping with our call for stewardship, we decided to send half of our share of the night’s 50/50 to our sister parish in New Orleans. In raising much-needed funds for our own school, we felt it was important to remember those less fortunate. Guests were treated to appetizers, a 3-course meal superbly served by the wait staff at the Double Tree. Each guest received a goodie bag filled with treats donated by local businesses. Music was provided by DJ Mike Catalano from “Rock Around the Clock Entertainment.” We are so grateful to the many sponsors and contributors who make this event so successful! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!
MARK YOUR CALENDARS: “2008 Night of Winners” Super Tricky Tray will be held on Saturday, February 2nd, 2008 at the Somerset Double Tree Hotel on Davidson Avenue. “LET IT BE KNOWN TO ALL WHO ENTER,
THAT CHRIST IS THE REASON FOR THIS SCHOOL,
HE IS THE UNSEEN AND EVER PRESENT TEACHER,
A ROLE MODEL TO OUR TEACHERS
AND AN INSPIRATION TO OUR STUDENTS.”
-SMS Mission Statement
The most important goal of Saint Matthias School is to continue to nurture and educate our children in the name of Jesus, to help ensure the future of our school, and have positive effect upon our community our country and our world. Sr. Eileen, our principal, said, “St. Matthias School is an integral part of the Catholic Community of St. Matthias. A strong academic program remains a trademark of this school. A solid education is one of the greatest gifts we pass on to our children. The children need to be equipped with academic, technological and social skills to become responsible contributing citizens of our world. More importantly they need to be firm in their faith and solid in their moral convictions. As members of a faith community, we recognize that providing an excellent academic education for our students is not our primary goal. The purpose of our school is to assist and support our parents, the primary educators, in their responsibility to nurture, develop and strengthen the faith formation of their child(ren).” Alumni are an important part of our past, present and our future.
We rely on your encouragement and support to continue on this successful path, we pray in thanksgiving for the many graces we have received, with no doubt for the graces still to come.
